Two local women, Jan Cirillo and Marilyn Honahan recently traveled to Boynton Beach to attend a Lupus Foundation of America Southeast Florida Chapter Support Group Facilitator Training. The women, along with Keena Burns of Naples plan to start a Marco/Naples Lupus Support Group. The meeting location and times will be announced at a later date.
People with Lupus often feel alone with their disease and the everyday struggles that the disease brings to their lives. The philosophy of Lupus Foundation of America support groups is to provide a warm and caring environment where people with lupus, their family members, caregivers and loved ones can share their experiences, methods of coping and insights into living with this chronic illness. Knowing that others share this journey offers comfort and reassurance.
The goal of a LFA Support Group is to provide current and accurate information and education while providing peer support and friendship through sharing related issues as well as to provide a positive social support system. Support groups work by allowing members to accept their diagnosis and to learn coping techniques and insights about living with a chronic illness.
Patients, family, friends and others interested in attending this newly forming support group are invited to call Marilyn Honahan at 239-398-4800 for further details.
