Local student honored in the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program

11 year old, Tia Nielsen of Marco Island, known as the ‘Fireball Fundraiser’ has been selected as a store winner in the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program. Tia, was recognized for her efforts and commitment to improving her community.

Kohl’s will be featuring Tia on an in-store poster and her nomination is now being considered for a regional scholarship.  Kohl’s Cares, recognizes and rewards young volunteers who help make their communities a better place.

Given these uncertain times, Kohl’s Cares Program offers scholarships to stand-out kids so they can continue to do great things. This nomination was for all her work throughout the year helping 36 extended families with 107 kids with many needed supplies.

in 2011, Tia also received a letter from the “Junior National Young Leaders Conference” as a result of her outstanding academic achievements and demonstrated leadership potential. Earlier this year, Tia received an award from the Collier County Police Dept. for “Doing the Right Thing.”

These awards and honors have helped Tia stay inspired to continue improving her community in the years to come. While graduating from 5th grade this year, Tia  also stayed busy with her love of Hip Hop Dance, Girl Scouts, Safety Patrol, Volleyball, Optimist Girls Basketball- Coached by her dad Pat Nielsen, horseback riding and now getting certified with the Red Cross Babysitting Course & CPR classes to help her raise more money in 2011-12.
