For the First Friday Open House scheduled on August 2nd, the Local Color Art Gallery will honor the Boys of Summer. In 1972, Roger Kahn wrote a non-fiction baseball book where he recounts some of the history of the Brooklyn Dodgers up to their victory in the 1955 World Series.
The Gallery celebrated its July First Friday Open House serving real Memphis barbecue along with a list of July 4th favorites. According to artist Malenda Trick, they wanted to celebrate the birth of the greatest nation to ever exist on this planet, America! Malenda’s memorial wall was also on display.
Here in Marco, the players for the Marco Island Senior Softball League continue to work out at Winterberry softball field, refining their skills in readiness for the competitive winter season. In the heat and humidity of the summer, these men, from 55 to 80+ young, are getting fit and having fun. In 2019, the Softball League kicked off its 20th season and they continue to attract new recruits – men who just moved to Marco or men just wanting to get out there, play ball and have fun. They are loosely referred to as “the boyz of summer.”
No matter your age, if you love baseball and have a favorite team or a baseball player – come out to The Local Color Art Gallery on August 2nd from 5-7 PM. Wear your team’s hat or league shirt, talk baseball or softball, enjoy the camaraderie, free food and wine and be surrounded by art!
The Local Color Art Gallery is located at the Shops of Old Marco, 258 Royal Palm Drive.
