Celebrating Thanksgiving on November’s First Friday at the Local Color Art Gallery was not only a celebration of the upcoming “Turkey Day” but was also a celebration for the kick off of the fall 2016-17 season. Cooler weather, low humidity and returning familiar faces gathered to meet, greet and see what’s new.
The artists did not disappoint. Panoramic photographer R. Clark Lindberg’s work greets guests right inside the door. Warm beaches, glowing sunsets and local Everglades preserves are only a few subjects captured by Clark’s artisticeye.
Colorful shawls in turquoise, emerald green and deep sea blues – just in time for cooler evenings or walks on the beach – are hand-woven by Joanna Sunshine.
Barbi Dalton has been busy painting larger works of foamy rushing water and quiet palms on the beach.
Malenda Trick’s summer days were spent painting large portraits of Tommy Barfield and Frank Cushing as part of the “Windows and Doors” fundraiser for the Marco Island Historical Museum to bring back Key Marco Calusa artifacts. She continues to paint portraitsof the country’s veterans, a testament to her patriot spirit and support of our military.
New work by Betty Newman, Karen Swanker, Bonnie Hauke, Lindy Kowalczyk, Tom Curtis and Donald Sunshine – who has expanded his gallery space, fill the walls.
