Lions Club Launches Membership Drive

Just over 100 years ago in 1917, the Lions Club International was first formed by a group of philanthropic businessmen. The mission they created was to empower volunteers across the globe to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding. Today there are 47,000 Lions Clubs operating in 205 countries around the world.

For the past 25 years, men and women “Lions” have volunteered as members of the Marco Island Lions Club, actively raising funds so that thousands of adults and children on Marco Island and in the Collier County area can be screened free of charge for sight and hearing deficiencies, provided with free eyeglasses for those who cannot afford them, assisted by professional eye doctors and surgeons from the Naples area who have donated their services for no-cost surgery or treatment, and they’ve supplied daily living, mobility, Braille training and schools for the blind and diabetes testing.

During the months of April and May, the Marco Island Lions Clubs is holding an annual Membership Drive, encouraging Marco Island residents to support our island community by doing the Lions’ good works.

“Our primary fundraisers include our annual Pancake Breakfast and White Cane Days, typically held in February and March, said Dave Gardner, President of the Marco Lions Club. “One hundred percent (100%) of all funds raised go to our community,” he continued. “It takes very little time and energy to be a Lion, but it’s worth every minute.”

For more information on how you can become a member of the Marco Island chapter of this worthwhile organization, call Ken Gandy, V.P. at 239-877-3777 or look for their brochures placed in stores and doctor’s offices throughout Marco Island. The Lions Club would love to introduce you to a rewarding journey community service.

“Men and women, young or older, we are looking to add another 15 to 20 members to our Marco Island Lions Club,” commented Ken Gandy, VP. “It is a worthy cause and a heart-warming experience to help our neighbors. Call me today”

Lions Club International is the largest non-profit organization in the world.
