Linear park trail

Construction of the Linear Park Trail project is taking place along the City’s easement property (LCEC power line corridor) between San Marco Rd. near to the Racquet Center all the way to Andalusia Terrace at Mackle Park. This construction is the phase one segment that is part of the City of Marco Island’s Master Plan dating back to 2003. Thanks to a grant funding allocation from the Florida Department of Transportation, Transportation Enhancement Program, a 12-foot wide shared use pathway and landscaping is being installed.

Jim Miller, Project Engineer for the City of Marco Island commented, “Eventually, the Linear Park Trail will go all the way to Winterberry. At this time however, only the northern segment is being done. Construction on the Linear Park Trail, combined with a separate sidewalk project by the City of Marco Island to widen a section of sidewalk along San Marco Road, will result in a 1.5 mile loop of shared use pathway being completed.” The linear path will link Mackle Park down along Leland over to Sandhill. From Sandhill to San Marco Road and to the corner by the Racquet Center.

Completion is expected February 2011. The FDOT is providing a Transportation Enhancement Grant of $210,000 for the project. Total estimated construction cost is $369,801.
