Letter to the Editor: Victor N Rios

To the Editor:

A significant event in my life, was being a political prisoner in Cuba where I was severely tortured. My release from prison and exit papers from Cuba to come to the US was thanks to a good hearted man who risked his life to help people like me.

That man that saved my life taught me that we need to give back to our fellow citizens. My many years of Community service, from helping children in NJ learn computer technology, to serving as a proud member of the U.S. Army, to helping Los Angeles children at risk learn about computers, in a program I started with then LA Major Riordan and for which I received the Best Lady of California Community Service Award. Then coming to Marco Island in 2004 and serve in the Beach Advisory Committee and for the last 7 years in Collier County Coastal Advisory Committee, making sure that our Island gets the right share of the tourist tax money to take care of our beaches and coastal areas which are a great “asset” of our piece of Paradise.

Serving in the CAC helped me work as part of a Team and the ability to give and take to achieve objectives. After attending 90% of all MI City Council meetings, running for Marco Island City Council is an honor, and if elected, will be the culmination of my desire to serve the community using my strong Management and Financial skills and also the pinnacle of achieving the American dream.

Respectfully,

Victor N Rios
