Letter to the Editor: Charlette Roman for Marco City Council

After much thought, I have decided to run for the Marco Island City Council. I have lived on the island for 14 years, retiring here after a successful 26-year career in the U.S. Army. As veterans know, my military career hardwired leadership, integrity and service in me. Since my arrival on Marco Island, I have stepped up to contribute to our community. In 2002, when our young city had difficulty getting people for the Planning Board, I volunteered and was ultimately appointed to serve twice, from 2004 – 2006 and 2013 – present. Additionally, I have served on several other civic and governmental boards and committees, including the Collier County Planning Commission, Marco Island Civic Association Board of Directors, and the Collier Citizens Council, as Marco Island’s representative.

I love our natural environment and want to keep it pristine and vibrant. To put action to that goal, I have volunteered over a thousand hours with Rookery Bay and also have served three terms as President of Friends of Tigertail Beach.

Like you, I care deeply about our community and our quality of life on this beloved island. I consider the duties of a city councilor to be public service and NOT politics. I want to contribute to preserving all that’s great about Marco Island, and to making it an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

I’m running for office because Marco Islanders deserve a professional and effective government in the Sunshine, with all members of the community being treated with respect. On council, favoritism and insults should be replaced with collaboration and constructive dialogue to serve all the people. I’m asking for your support to work with me for a fresh start, placing our community’s interests above any other!

Charlette Roman
