Lely High School had eight swimmers compete in the Class 3A regional swim meet at the North Shore Aquatic Center in St. Petersburg on Friday. Nathan Lorenz and Caelan Burt are moving on the state meet on Friday, November 6, in Stuart.
“The kids worked extremely hard in this unconventional year and were very successful,” said Adam Peterson, Lely’s Swim Coach. “We have two swimmers moving on to the state meet.”
Mia Witthoff, Caelan Burt, Emily Hurst and Lauren Fernandez were the Lely girls who competed in regionals. Nathan Lorenz, Dante Vecchio, Sebastian Casado and Alejandro Ruiz-Vallejo competed for the boys.
Freshman Burt qualified in the 50 freestyle after finishing ninth with a time of 25.30. Lorenz, a senior, qualified by finishing sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.63. He also qualified in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.36.
Peterson is proud of all his swimmers and sees promise for the future, and as he said it best, “We are looking forward to improving on our successes from this year.”
