The Marco Island Writers (MIW) convened for their final meeting of 2012 on December 12, at the Marco Island Center for the Arts. The air was alive with enthusiastic conversation and sharing. After a brief update of business issues the speaker was introduced.

This month’s speaker was Jim Langlas, a recently published author dedicated to the craft of writing. Jim generously offered his time to share what he experienced in writing and publishing his first book, “Heart of a Warrior.” He was very open and receptive to all questions. Although Jim has been writing most of his life, until this book, his preferred genre was poetry. The book is inspirational and based on years of experience as a martial arts instructor.

Following an animated hour of questions and discussion with the speaker, half the group moved to another room for the “read and recommend” portion of the meeting where group members read, discuss

and critique each other’s work, and works-in-progress. Almost everyone in the group is writing regularly in various genres on a variety of issues. One of the members is offering a sub-group called Think Tank for more intensive support, brainstorming and critiquing. Anyone interested in truly accomplishing a writing goal should contact Robert Messier at 239-331-1605 or robertmessier77@yahoo.com.

It was announced that the meeting time will change as of the January 9, 2013 meeting. It will begin at 6 PM and end at 8 PM. This is a half an hour earlier and applies to all subsequent meetings. For further information, you may contact Joanne Tailele at 239-784-2637 or marcoislandwriters@yahoo.com or review the information on the website at www.marcoislandwriters.com.

MIW is sponsoring an AuthorFest on February 7, 2013 at the Marco Center for the Arts. Any local authors interested in promoting their books may contact Robert Messier at the number above to reserve a space. Deadline is January 1, 2013.
