For the second year in a row, Cipriano Martinez of Naples was the overall winner, blazing through the Hideaway Beach course in 17:04, over a minute ahead of the next-closest competitor.
“He’s very fast,” said event organizer Preston Stiner, “he smokes it.”A total of 217 runners and walkers crossed the finishing line. This year’s group included a lot of walkers.
“We’re actually going to try to encourage more walkers to come out in the future,” Stiner said, “it fits our demographic.
Plus, Hideaway is such a beautiful place to walk.”
The top female finisher was Alexis Lamb of Marco Island, who finished with a time of 20:26. Lamb finished fourth overall.
The Kiwanis event is unique with the make up of its participants, who ranged in age from toddlers to senior citizens. There were even a handful of dogs on the route.A perfect fall day on Marco Island made the experience a delight for everyone involved.
