A group of Marco Islanders was given a sample of new service to Key West by way of a 150 foot catamaran that can accommodate 350 passengers. Key West Express, located at the Rose Marina on Bald Eagle, treated 190 passengers to a short cruise out to the Gulf on February 1st.
The addition to the Key West Express fleet is a 2004 catamaran that will make the trip from Marco Island to Key West in three hours – dock-to-dock. By automobile it’s about a five hour drive, assuming no traffic problems. On February 14, the company will institute daily service. With a 34 foot beam and a catamaran hull the boat is rock steady in the water, and can make speeds up to 30 knots with its four Cummings diesel engines.
The vessel has two outdoor sun decks, two large indoor air conditioned cabins with very comfortable reclining seats, two flat TV screens, a full galley and bar and other amenities.
Passengers on the demonstration run were treated to a glowing sunset and a spectacular view of Hideaway Beach as they enjoyed samples of the food and beverages typically served on the state-of-the-art boat.
