The annual International Coastal Clean-up, instituted by the Ocean Conservancy, is in its 31st year of partnering with volunteer organizations and individuals around the globe. The event encourages people, on every one of the world’s coastlines, to remove trash from their beaches and waterways. In addition to cleaning the beaches, other goals of this worldwide activity are to identify the sources of the garbage and to change the behaviors that result in the litter.
The Tigertail Beach clean-up on Marco Island is hosted by Keep Collier Beautiful and Friends of Tigertail. All ages are welcome to join the local organizations, marinas and volunteers who take part in this important effort. Students may receive community service hours for their participation, and will receive certificates of appreciation. Garbage bags, plastic gloves and bottled water will be provided. Please wear shoes that can get wet, and protect yourself from the sun by using sunscreen and/or wearing a hat.
