Shabbat, often described as the day of rest, day of peace, and day of wonder, will take on a new dimension at the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island (JCMI) on Friday evening, March 4. 2011. We will have our first Friday Night Live Jazz Shabbat Service. While the service will be conducted by our cherished Rabbi Edward Maline and our Cantorial soloist for the past 17 years, Hari Jacobsen, JCMI will feature jazz musicians Lucille Gaita and Kevin Mauldin.
The “family” at JCMI is well-acquainted with the artistry of Lucille – from Jewish music to popular to classical to jazz – including playing, improvising, and arranging. Her talent never ends. This time she will focus on jazz, again playing, improvising and arranging.
For anyone who has never heard Kevin Mauldin perform, you’re in store for a treat. Not only is he the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra principal bass player but he is a member of the newly formed Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra and a freelance jazz artist throughout southwest Florida.
Everyone is welcome. Services begin at 8:00pm with an Oneg Shabbat (social gathering) following with desserts.JCMI is located at 991 Winterberry on Marco Island. For additional information call 642-0800.
