JCMI Film Festival

Submitted

For the fifteenth year, the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island (JCMI) welcomes members and non-members to its exciting Film Festival.

On Sunday afternoons, once a month from December through March, four viewings will take place. Prior to the film, on December 13 at 1:30 PM, moviegoers will enjoy a reception and a performance by a live Klezmer Band, conducted by Stu Warshauer, known as the King of Klezmer music. At 2:30 PM attendees will view “Theodore Bikel: In the Shoes of Sholom Aleichem.”

The next three films all begin at 2 PM, and are always followed by a lovely reception. On January 17, “Above and Beyond,” about American WWII pilots answering Israel’s call for help, promises to pique the audience’s interest. On February 21, “Apples From the Desert” presents problems in Israel between religious and secular Jews. And on March 13, our last but hardly the least of the films, brings the audience face to face with “Deliman,” an exploration of the American Jewish experience viewed through the evolution of Jewish delicatessens in America.

Admission fee for the patron series is $85, regular series is $72, and individual tickets are $25 each. The Jewish Congregation of Marco Island is located at 991 Winterberry Drive, Marco Island. For reservations and information, call the JCMI at 239-642-0800. Book early because seats go quickly.
