It takes a village to raise a child

On June 3rd many proud parents, relatives and friends watched as the Marco Island Charter Middle School eighth graders graduated and were promoted on to High School. At the conclusion of the ceremony an “after party” was held and happily attended by 110 of the 122 graduates. Many local businesses graciously donated items as a tribute to the students and the community that we all live in. Pizza came from Joey’s, Vic’s Island Pizza, Vandy’s Five Brothers and Jimmy’s Italian Deli. Kinetico donated cases of water for the thirsty dancers. Eagle Packaging came through with the goody bags individually labeled, while Publix was there with plenty of cake and chicken tenders. The Marco Island Florist blew up and delivered the balloons and P.T. Gator produced the commemorative T-shirts autographed by the students at the end of the night. Ace Hardware donated the paint for the backdrop created by Mrs. Heidenreich that was used for the candid photos. Marco Movies, Starbucks and Cold Stone Creamery, as always, were generous in donating gifts used as door prizes. Many of the parents also brought in cakes, cookies, ice, drinks, flowers and decorations. Teacher chaperones included Mr. Pernas, Mrs. Albanese, Ms. Prange and Ms. Percell.  Principal George Abounader was there from the very beginning till the last graduate was picked up just after 11:00 P.M. Countless parents and teachers were involved in the organization, set up, preparation, decoration and clean up of the event. It truly is heartwarming to see our community come together as one on a night that was so special for many of our students. On behalf of all the parents and students of the Marco Island Charter Middle School, we thank you and want you to know that the smiles, pictures and memories you helped be a part of will last a life time…
