The Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron has a team of certified Vessel Safety Inspectors who perform free and valuable vessel inspections meant to make your time boating as safe as possible. This season the Squadron did over 215 free boat inspections.

Once a vessel has passed it receives a safety decal, which may be displayed onboard to show all passengers and visitors that they have encountered a safe boat with a safety-conscious captain. And the captain/owner will be happier knowing another set of eyes have deemed the vessel safe and sound. The aim is to make your boat safe. Should any deficiencies be uncovered, the Squadron works with the boat owner to improve and create a safe boat.

Vessel Safety Checks cover details such as the boat’s numbers and registration/ documentation, personal flotation devices, visual distress signals, fire extinguishers, ventilation, backfire flame control, navigation lights, marine sanitation, as well as overall vessel conditions such as decks free of obstruction, electrical/ fuel/heating systems and marine radio. Discussion items include float plans, weather and sea conditions, survival tips/first aid, accident reporting/owner responsibility, fueling and fuel management, and insurance considerations.

Especially this month when safe boating is emphasized and celebrated, you are encouraged to schedule a free boat inspection.
