The First Annual Island Club Cup event was held on Sunday, January 10, and saw the Island Country Club’s Women’s Golf Association compete against the club’s Men’s Golf Association during a blustery afternoon at their club.
Over one hundred golfers of all different skill levels competed during the afternoon event. The idea was one that was floated by General Manager Bid Bakkar, who suggested a celebratory type event such as this might be in order to begin the 2020-2021 season at the club. A committee consisting of Peter Boynton, Colleen Callahan, Marilou Casey and Deb Rogers immediately began planning for the event, with the assistance of Club Pro Ben Tilley.
After all the golfers had arrived back at the club house after play, a celebration of the event was held for the occasion, including dinner and entertainment for those who participated. “Membership in our club is more than just about golf. It’s about the spirit of community that we all share here. It’s about friendships and the camaraderie which have been part of the history of the Island Country Club since its inception in 1966,” said Peter Boynton, who praised the work of the committee and the Island Club Staff who helped to pull the event together.
