Mary Lou Condee was born on May 16, 1927 in Springfield, Illinois. She attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Springfield High School and took evening business college courses.

She was the assistant credit manager for Biederman’s Furniture Store for a number of years before leaving Illinois for Marco Island, Florida.

In June 1969, Mary Lou moved to Marco Island, having purchased property on Nassau Road and two garden apartments in 1966. In 1971 she worked in the Deltona trailer accounting offices.

An opportunity presented itself to Mary Lou to become the first woman to work at the small Deltona airport off San Marco Road. At the airport Mary Lou had many varied responsibilities: she answered radios, gave wind directions to landing aircraft, directed pilots to parking areas, rented cars, played chauffer to many stars and sports figures, and was a bookkeeper.

When the airport made the move across the bridge, Mary Lou decided to accept a position in the hotel accounting department.

On December 31, 1973 she married Donald E. Condee, Sr. The couple enjoyed many years together, filled with happiness and adventure. They worked together, building a successful business on Marco Island, Condee Cooling and Electric, Inc. For over thirty years, they were members of the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club, where Donald served as a Commodore. They were also members of the Island Country Club on Marco.

Mary Lou and Donald took numerous trips in “Yellowbird,” their five-seater Navion aircraft, including travels to Hayward, Wisconsin and Seattle, Washington. They also enjoyed many adventures on their 41’ Hatteras Sportfish, the “Con-Du-It,” including voyages to all of the islands in the Bahamas, except one.

Besides Mary Lou’s love for her beloved husband Donald, who passed away in December 2010, and her children, she enjoyed playing golf, dancing and traveling.

Mary Lou’s parents, Lawrence A. Schleutker, Leona L. Smith, and sister Evelyn Jean Nash preceded her in death.
