Imagine A Celebration for A Cure!

To imagine is to dream, to envision and to create. The American Cancer Society dreams of the day when our world will be free of cancer. Our vision for 2020 is focused and clear: We must find a cure! Please join us Friday, March 6th at the JW Marriott Marco Island as we strive to create a world without cancer with a Celebration for a Cure, the 2020 ACS Imagination Ball.

Presented by Phoenix Roofing & Construction, Inc. for the second consecutive year, this gala fundraiser, chaired by Debra Shanahan for the eighth consecutive year, will feature fine food, music by the Stacey Allison Band, both live and silent auctions, the presentation of the Grado Award to Curt and Jacquie Koon of CJ’s on the Bay, and so much more.

The Grado Award is named in honor of the late John Grado and his wife Corrie for their dedication and commitment to the Marco Island office of the American Cancer Society. Each year it is presented to individuals who have contributed significantly in the fight against cancer. Curt and Jacquie Koon are so deserving of this honor. For the third consecutive year, they have hosted the meetings of the executive committee of the ACS Imagination Ball at CJ’s on the Bay. They have donated funds to the American Cancer Society that are now being used for patient support and cancer research programs. Curt and Jacquie both say, “It feels so good to be a part of the solution. Today we know more survivors than those who have lost the battle.”

Phoenix Roofing is no stranger to the horror of cancer. Like so many, this familyowned business has been impacted by this dreadful disease. “Cancer is a terrible disease that affects far too many people,” says Phoenix partner Jameson Hewitt. “Unfortunately, we are feeling those effects right now within our family and company. We are just glad we can do something to help.” Jameson’s aunt is battling a rare form of blood cancer. A cousin sadly lost the battle to stomach cancer, but another cousin is a survivor who is now cancerfree. Several employees of Phoenix Roofing have battled cancer, and several have lost family members to the disease.

The American Cancer Society has been blessed with the dedication and support of so many in our community. We thank our sponsors:

For the second consecutive year, Kathein Jewelers of Marco will add some sparkle to the celebration with their own creation, the Diamond Dig. In support of our quest for a cure, this family-owned business has donated a dazzling piece of jewelry. With your donation, you just might be the lucky winner who gets to go home with this precious adornment

The American Cancer Society, the Imagination Ball Executive Committee and John R. Wood Properties invite you to send a message of healing for our youngest warriors. Your $100 donation can purchase a Brave Gown for a child in a local hospital. Since 2015, over 450,000 of these fun and inspirational gowns have been worn by patients in Children’s Hospitals throughout the world. Depicting Superheroes, Police, Magical Unicorns and more, Brave Gowns are the perfect gift to provide children a sense of peace and control during their hospital stay.

The Imagination Ball concludes each year with the goal of our mission. We raise our bidding paddles in our Finish the Fight round, the final showdown. 100% of the funds raised in this round are donated to cancer research. To learn more about our research programs, please visit www.cancer.org. The details are fascinating, the progress is astonishing, and the results are bringing us renewed hope each day. We see the fruits of our efforts in the countless and ever-growing numbers of cancer survivors! We celebrate miracles as survivors and their loved ones are celebrating more birthdays, more holidays, and many more precious moments in life!
