How the Noontime Rotary Club supports the community

Submitted by Lynne Minozzi

The Rotary Club of Marco Island Board of Directors recently approved the recommendations of the Screening and Allocations Committee regarding cash grants to several community organizations. The YMCA was awarded $7,000 in support of their summer camp program. Other awards included $500 to St. Matthews House; $500 for Habitat for Humanity; and $500 for Meals on Wheels. In addition, the board allotted $250 to Bradley Chute for the Eagle Scout project at Veterans Park and $1,500 to our Rotary District for the hosting of our youth exchange student. Many thanks to Jim and Allyson Richards for hosting our student from Brazil.

Other groups that will be receiving grants in the near future include $1,000 to support the Interact Club at Lely High School; $1,500 for the 2014 Project Graduation, an annual spring event for high school seniors hosted by the Naples YMCA; and $3,000 for Joy of Giving in which our club has been a successful and long standing participant both with volunteers and dollars.

Our fundraising efforts have supported our Scholarship Program and we currently have (13) students receiving support – $1,500 per semester so long as they maintain a 2.5 or above grade average and carry no less than 12 credit hours.

The Rotary Club of Marco Island meets every Thursday at 12 Noon at the Marco Island Yacht Club for lunch, friendship and weekly programs. If you are interested in joining our noontime club, please contact Lynne Minozzi-642-3836 or Cindy Love-Abounader-394-3144. We also meet for Happy Hour at CJ’s on the Bay the second Tuesday of every month from 5 to 7 PM. Our next social gathering is on September 10th. We look forward to seeing you and bring a friend or two!
