Over the last several weeks, I have been giving you homework assignments that provide fun and entertaining ways to keep your skills sharp until the time when we can all get back out on the courts and start playing pickleball again.
For this week, however, my homework is an old school reading assignment.
Go to usapa.org and download the official 2020 rule book of The International Pickleball Federation and read it.
This covers everything you will ever need to know about the rules of the sport of pickleball.
If you are a recreational player, focus on sections 1 through 11.
If you are planning to, or already compete in tournaments, then you also should completely familiarize yourself with sections 12 and 14, regarding tournament play.
By reading these rules, along with following all my “at home” practices and—eventually—getting in some competitive playtime on the courts, you will be both “book smart” as well as “street smart.” The combination of these two factors will make you a formidable competitor to all your future opponents.
In the meantime, stay safe, stand strong and stay sane.
