About Blue Zones Project

Did you know that the environment we live in and our lifestyle have the greatest impact on our overall well-being and longevity? Blue Zones Project is a well-being initiative supported by evidence-based lifestyle strategies that can be applied at the individual, organizational, or community level. Blue Zones Project is based on a National Geographic study of people from all over the world that found five specific geographical locations – dubbed “Blue Zones”- where people regularly celebrate their 100th birthday in good health.

Each of these “Blue Zone” areas share a list of traits we call the Power 9®. When followed, these simple principles emulate how people in the Blue Zones live – translating to their, and ultimately our well-being and vitality.

Why Blue Zones Project in Southwest Florida?

NCH Healthcare System has worked for years to support a vision of a healthier, happier, and more vibrant community for Southwest Florida. In 2015, NCH sponsored Blue Zones Project to help optimize well-being in Southwest Florida. NCH and Blue Zones Project have since worked to listen to community members, learn about your unique lifestyle and culture here in paradise, and promote your community’s desires to live longer, healthier, happier lives.
