For those who love music, the Art Center has planned a new series of evening events called “Musical Interludes.” The first such evening will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 5:30-7:00 PM and features the Bach Ensemble of Southwest Florida. Lovers of the classics will not want to miss this exceptional performance. Tickets are $35 per person.

“Music, as an art form, is meant to enhance the quality of life. Here is your chance to sit back, close your eyes and just relax,” says Rosemary Wick, President of the Art Center’s Board of Directors.

Members of the Ensemble will perform Dixit Dominus by Baldassare Galuppi and excerpts from Magnificat by Antonio Vivaldi, both of which were composed in the 1700s. Three young violinists, judged Outstanding Performers at a recent Bach Festival, will also perform their winning Bach selections. They are Hyacinth Brown (age 9), Sani Adams (age 14) and Lucca Delcompare (age 16). The performers will be accompanied by Ensemble pianist Peter Fancovic.

Established more than a decade ago, the 50-voice Bach Ensemble — Southwest Florida’s only group focusing on Baroque music — is dedicated to performing the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, his contemporaries and later composers inspired by his legacy. This year, the Ensemble welcomes a new Artistic Director Peter Hastings Hutchings, who comes to the group with an extensive and multifaceted career as a musician, teacher, composer, music and choral director.

The Art Center plans other Musical Interlude evenings this season. The Bach Ensemble will be back, as will the Rebecca Richardson Trio performing a tribute to great jazz vocalists, the Dan Heck Trio with a program dedicated to jazz guitar legends and the Musica Bella Ensemble with a performance of classical music.
