It is no secret that the people of Marco Island share a spirit of generosity and willingness to help those in need. When Stonewalls, 551 S. Collier Blvd., recently hosted a Happy Hour for Hope to benefit Meals of Hope, that sentiment was quite obvious. It was a packed house as guests enjoyed delicious food, happy hour drink prices and the upbeat sounds of musical talent Rosetta Stone. A 50-50 raffle added to the fun and funds as the lucky winner generously donated $250 of the winnings back to Meals of Hope.
Meals of Hope is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization formed by the Sunrise Rotary Club, Noontime Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club of Marco Island. Throughout the year, the organization works diligently to raise funds for the purchase of raw food materials that will be packaged in November and distributed to families in need through a network utilizing the Harry Chapin Food Bank and Collier
Harvest. Happy Hours for Hope are held each month at various Marco Island restaurants that generously donate delicious assortments of appetizers, topped off with happy hour drink prices. It’s always a good time for a good cause!
Meals of Hope Chairman, Bill “Captain Happy Hope” Morris, also urges everyone to save their wine corks as they are an additional way of raising funds for Meals of Hope. Korks for Kids, led by Susan Ackerson of the Old Marco Pub and Anchor Real Estate, collects corks and sells them on eBay. The money is then donated to Meals of Hope. Ackerson has said, “It only takes a few corks to feed a hungry child.” Corks may be dropped off for donation at Old Marco Pub, Anchor Real Estate, the Law Office of William G. Morris or any Meals of Hope event.
