Gary Hindley, who has been selected for no less than six Hall of Fame inductions both as a player and as a coach, will be joining the Marco Island Charter Middle School Coaching Staff and will serve as the Head Coach for this winter’s Girls’ Soccer Team. Hindley, who became a full-time resident of Marco Island last November, has Hall of Fame selections for both his high school play in Wall Township, New Jersey, where he was the captain of their first-ever soccer team, and from his collegiate alma mater (Trenton State College in New Jersey), where he played on one NAIA National Championship team and another with a runner-up finish.
Before moving to Collier County, Coach Hindley spent 30 years as a player and coach at the professional, collegiate, and high school levels. As a coach, he has amassed a college and professional record of 223-174-4 for a winning record of 60%. He also spent eight seasons, as both the boys and girls’ varsity coach at 2A Port St. Joe High School in the Panhandle of Florida, and produced a 52-37-8 record, with several District and Regional successes.
Coach Hindley commented recently on his newest soccer endeavor, “I feel honored to be asked to serve as the coach for the girls’ team at MICMS. I am looking forward to coaching in my newly adopted home community and hope that I can continue to add to the soccer development of the players in the program. They have a strong soccer tradition at the school, which is a tribute to the previous coaches, as well as to the Optimist Club Soccer Program here on Marco Island, which has served as the initial training platform for almost all of the middle school players.”
Training for the 23-player roster began on Monday, December 2nd with their first game played on December 11th against St. Francis Xavier School at Winterberry Park on Marco Island.
The Athletic Director at MICMS, Mrs. Margo Heidenreich, had this to say about the hiring of Coach Hindley, “We are fortunate to have someone with Coach Hindley’s background here to help our student-athletes reach their full potential. I am excited for the soccer season and look forward to watching the girls SOAR like Eagles!”
In addition to coaching at the middle school, Coach Hindley will be conducting camps for interested players at the elementary through high school levels. For more information, contact the coach directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
