The Habitat Home Store is located next to the Habitat office building on Tamiami Trail. They sell a little bit of everything, all up scale products. You can furnish your home and donate to charity at the same time. Exclusions are clothing and mattresses.

Kayla Bratager, the new Assistant Manager, took me on a tour of the building. She has been with Habitat for two months, having graduated in May 2010 in marketing. There is nothing but enthusiasm and energy portrayed by Kayla as she addresses the products in the store and the customers.

The store accepts only the best items as displayed by the beautiful furniture, Bavarian china, butcher block table, paintings and sofas. One painting went up and was sold the same day.

A beautiful like new wicker set came in as I was leaving. I’m sure it will not be around long. In fact, nothing stays in the store long. Kayla has started a 20% off sale on various items. The sale clears out over stock products.

In addition, residents in Habitat Houses get a 30% discount on all items in the store as they furnish their homes.

All items are donated to Habitat and are very reasonably priced from the up scale jewelry to the appliances. There are aluminum shutters, doors, fans, lights, kitchen cabinets and other construction parts

This merchandise came in as I was leaving the Store. I’m sure it is probably sold by now but it represents the quality and diversity of the merchandise.

in the back room. Book cases frame the setting around the dinning room table and living room displays. Books, televisions, kitchen items, exercise equipments, golf clubs, rugs, pillows and bedding are along the back wall.

Everyone I spoke with in the building had donated previously to this charity and came in to buy because they knew the quality and prices are exceptional and you meet the nicest people here.

Several people come in daily looking for the perfect things, but they are not sure exactly what it is until they see it. Kayla will soon have an aid for their search with an on line page picturing new items as they come into the store.

Habitat does not deliver items sold but has a list of qualified delivery people to contact. One person said she furnished an apartment mainly from the Habitat Store.

To get involved you can donate by bringing your small items to the back door of the building or call for a pick up for larger pieces. Marco Island pick ups are Wednesday or Friday.

Habitat Home Store is located at 11127 Tamiami Trail E., 239-732-6388. Store hours are Monday to Friday 10 to 5, Saturday 10 to 3, closed Sunday. Volunteers are always needed at Habitat with various duties and flexible hours. Kayla can use someone to sort the construction items right now.
