Starting off the new year is “Very Verdi,” a “stand up and sing” concert of well-loved opera hits by one of opera’s most famous composers. It will feature arias, duets and scenes from powerful moments in the famous Verdi operas. It will be held at Rose History Auditorium on Marco Island on January 19. More “Very Verdi” concerts will be performed in February.
The second show in January will be “Classic Cabaret,” an informal evening of popular songs with jazz piano trio accompaniment. This concert is a casual social mixer in the true cabaret style, with breaks in between sets for the audience to enjoy the wine and cheese spread available at each location. “Classic Cabaret” will be performed three times in January, and you can catch this show at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers on January 20, at the Sanibel Community House on January 22 and at the Naples Botanical Garden on January 24.The dinner series “A Taste of Opera” is back by popular demand, and it will be offered at private country clubs in all three counties through February. You can attend this elegant dinner with light entertainment of popular melodies and famous opera scenes in January at the Colony Bay Club in Bonita Springs on January 25.
“Grand Opera Nights” is on tour this season as well. “It’s a sort of buffet of favorite scenes, performed in costume, with a narrator explaining the action,” explains
General Director, Steffanie Pearce. “We presented it last year and the audience loved it.” This year the selections are from “Carmen,” “The Merry Widow,” “Faust,” and “West Side Story.” “Grand Opera Nights” will be at the Cultural Center Theatre in Port Charlotte on January 28, and the tour will continue at other locations in Southwest Florida through March.
To end January, the “Vocal Tour de France” will be performing at Daniels Pavilion, Artis—Naples on January 31. From the court of Louis XIV to the cabaret of Moulin Rouge, Gulfshore Opera’s Professional Artists in Residence will perform the best of French vocal music traditions, including romantic opera, opéra comique, mélodie and chanson.
