Gulfshore Opera, your regional opera company, returns to the Rose History Auditorium with its Passionate Puccini concert. Delight in the great arias and scenes from Giacomo Puccini’s “Tosca,” “Turandot,” “Madama Butterfly” and a sneak peek into the upcoming production of “La Bohème.”
Passionate Puccini, January 18th at 7 PM, brings the Gulfshore Opera Professional Artists in Residence to Marco Island with regional favorite soprano Robyn Lamp. Lamp performed the role of Lucrezia Borgia last season on the Opera Meets Broadway Gala, also performing with Broadway star Norm Lewis. That same evening, Lamp heroically stepped in as a last-minute replacement for the Verdi Requiem with the Southwest Florida Symphony.
Gulfshore Opera is dedicated to bringing high–quality artists to Southwest Florida for its productions. Joining Gulfshore Opera this season is soprano Chelsea Lehnea, fresh off debuts at the Washington National Opera and the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera. Ms. Lehnea will be performing the role of Musetta in “La Bohème,” and will be touring with Gulfshore Opera. Peter Lake joins as Rodolfo in “La Bohème,” and serves as the tenor artist in residence. Lake has been seen with the Savannah VOICE Festival, directed by Sherrill Milnes and the Pacific Opera Project with a world premiere English/Japanese production of “Madama Butterfly.” Neil Nelson, having just performed the title role in “Porgy & Bess” with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra, returns to Gulfshore Opera as an artist in residence. In addition to singing Marcello in “La Bohème,” Neil will be featured on the GO Cabaret Series in a Salute to Louis Armstrong.
Planning a night out in Downtown Naples just became a little easier. The GO Cabaret Series returns in season 6 with a Salute to Louis Armstrong. Enjoy selections made famous by Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra accompanied by a jazz trio. Jazz pianist Tony Viviano leads the trio which includes FGCU Jazz Studies professor Brandon Robertson—who recently released his debut album “Bass’d on a True Story”—and drummer Rick Costa. A special guest for this performance is trumpet master Randy Sandke. Randy has performed with the likes of Benny Goodman, Mel Tormé, Rosemary Clooney, Cab Calloway, Billy Joel and Bette Midler; performing on numerous film soundtracks and in Broadway orchestras. Enjoy dinner at The French Brasserie Rustique on 5th Avenue before the performance at Naples Art on January 31st.
Save the date for the annual Taste of Opera at the Hideaway Beach Club. “Une soirée à Paris” will be Thursday, February 27th at 6 PM with dinner by Chef Bill Drake, French wine, and French music performed by the GO Professional Artists in Residence.
As announced this past January, Gulfshore Opera makes its debut at the Barbara B Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers with a vivid new production of “La Bohème.” Marco Island residents can purchase $100 VIP Packages which include roundtrip transportation on a party bus, a champagne toast and one golden circle ticket to the performance.
