Former Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey was the keynote speaker at the annual Collier County Lincoln Reagan Celebration at the Naples Hilton.
The event was sponsored by the Collier County Republican Executive Committee in conjunction with all Collier County Republican Clubs, including the Caxambas Republican Club of Marco Island.
Christie also signed copies of his newly released book, “Let Me Finish,” which is currently Number 5 on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Christie was one of the first to endorse Donald Trump for President. He describes Trump’s unique style as, “What you see is what you get,” adding, “Voters want honesty, authenticity, not some pre-packaged, blow dried, focus group tested version of a leader.” Christie based his candidacy for the Presidency on being the “straight-talking, direct, Northeasterner from a Blue State. He figured that it was the path to nomination – and it was, except for Trump and not Christie.
Christie is frequently asked this question by the media, “Who do you think the President would want to run against in 2020?” According to Christie, that person is Elizabeth Warren. Warren believes that too much success is immoral; if you are successful in life and made a lot of money, we should take much of it away from you; that being a billionaire is wrong!
Be on guard, Christie cautioned his audience! The Democrats will be offering CUDDLING in 2020! They are going to offer Medicare for all; they want to raise taxes to 70% and they want to make all the decisions for you. They will tell you to relax and everything is going to be ok. Christie warns that socialism and dictatorship come in places where the public is indifferent.
Christie argued that Washington, Jefferson, Adams designed this country to be an argument. They set out three branches of the government – no one more powerful than the other. Arguing will never hurt this country but indifference will. Americans want action; competition of business and of ideas; ideas that will make this country better for our children and our grandchildren.
John Adams is a favorite of Christie’s. Adams is the guy who argued for independence as the only way to ensure the birth right for our children and grandchildren. Adams wrote his legacy for posterity, “You will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom! I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.”
Governor Christie knew that he was preaching to the choir. He wants all Americans to take risks, speak out and make a difference and measure up to John Adam’s legacy.
Democracy and capitalism are fragile institutions and must be protected. That is what 2020 will be for the GOP.
