Still haven’t heard of pickleball, the fastest growing sport in the U.S.? Well, Southwest Florida residents and visitors are in for a pickleball delight, as 2,000 competitors from around the world are set to descend on Naples. A swarm of workers and volunteers are buzzing with activity at East Naples Community Park, as they get ready to host to the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships, now in its third year. This mecca for pickleball will boast 50 (10 brand new courts are currently under construction) dedicated pickleball courts at one facility just in time for the tournament’s commencement.
A first glimpse into the event will be held on Friday, April 20th at Kids Day. Kick-off officially begins on Saturday, April 21 with the Margaritaville Party in the Park. Spectators will experience a full day of entertainment, which includes live music, food, and pro clinics, as players acclimate themselves on the practice courts. Spectators may also wander over to the Zing Zang Championship Court for a special treat and watch the Pros warming up.
“This year’s Open proves to have a lot more players, a lot more spectators, and it will be a lot more fun. Don’t miss it!”, exclaims Chris Evon, Co-Founder of the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships.
Competition begins on Sunday, April 22 with singles play. Doubles players compete Monday, April 23rd to Friday, April 27th. On Saturday, April 28th, CBS Sports will be filming the Dick’s Sporting Goods Championship Celebration as the pros compete for over $40,000 in prize money.
