Summer is here and there are plenty of activities that are being offered for kids on Marco Island.
As a coach, I believe that the more sports a young person can be exposed to, the better they will be at all sports!
As a parent, I believe summer vacation is a time for kids to enjoy fun activities, like going to the beach, or the movies, or just hanging out at home and having a barbeque and swimming in the pool for the afternoon.
So, as a coach and a parent, my advice is make sure your kids have a well rounded summer, which includes a lot of organized fun activities and some chill-out time.
The City of Marco Island Parks and Recreation Department will be offering many fun activities over the summer, such as jewelry camp, cooking camp, sailing camp and of course, Camp Mackle, Monday through Friday all summer.
As many of you already know, my Island Kids Tennis Sports Camp is a program I run on a year-round basis at the Racquet Center.
The Island Kids Summer Tennis Sports Camp begins the week of June 27th, and will run through the end of summer. Classes are held daily, Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 12 PM, for kidsage 5 and up. You may attend on either a daily or weekly basis.
While my main focus is on the sport of tennis, I have found that when kids participate in other seasonal sports, such as soccer, football, softball, volleyball, etc., when they come back to participate and play tennis, the skills they learned in these other sports actually improve their ability to perform in the sport of tennis.
The programing in my Summer Sports Camp at the Racquet Center will include a combination of activities, all related to tennis.
Kids between the ages of 5 and 10 will learn the fundamentals of tennis through an organized, diversified, fun blend of activities and games, which include tennis, pickleball, wallyball, and beach ball tennis. The day also includes a healthy snack break of fruit and popcorn in the recreation room.
Older, more advanced level players, who are on school tennis teams or who compete in juniors tournaments, will participate in advanced level training, which will include practice drills and match play. These players will also have the option to travel to Cambier Park in downtown Naples to compete against players from their Juniors Program. Club rivalry has been an ongoing summer tradition between the Racquet Center and CambierPark for 10 years, and is a fun, competitive challenge for the players.
The Island Kids Tennis Summer Sports program has a following of players who come from all over the country and around the world to participate and vacation on Marco Island. Having the opportunity to make friends from around the globe is part of what makes living on Marco Island different and special for our local kids.
Time passes quickly and our kids grow up before we know it, so be sure to enjoy family time with your kids this summer, and make an effort to take advantage of all of the fantastic activities and programming that is available for your kids here in our little paradise.
