Two important events are being sponsored by Friends of Tigertail in the month of September.
The first event is on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Rose Hall at the Marco Island Library, 210 S. Heathwood Drive. Friends of Tigertail is sponsoring a free presentation regarding issues with the Tigertail Lagoon. The section of water adjacent to and just north of the lagoon has become extremely shallow over time. This has restricted tidal flow, affecting the health of the lagoon water, wildlife populations, and recreational activities. The engineering firm Humiston and Moore conducted a study of the problem and possible solutions, and will present their findings to the public. Reservations are not required.
The second event, the Annual International Coastal Cleanup, will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 8 AM to 11 AM at Tigertail Beach. The Annual International Coastal Cleanup at Tigertail Beach is part of a worldwide effort to clean our coastal areas. Volunteers will meet at the Tigertail Beach kiosk, and are advised to wear shoes that may get wet. It is also recommended that participants bring sunscreen and a hat and their own water containers to help reduce waste.
All debris collected at the International Coastal Cleanup will be tallied and separated for recycling by the volunteers. Please bring a grabber and a bucket if you have one. Garbage bags, water and plastic gloves will be provided by Keep Collier Beautiful.
Sign up early for a free t-shirt from Keep Collier Beautiful. Youth participants will receive a certificate of appreciation. For more information contact Susan LaGrotta, Friends of Tigertail Stewardship Chairperson, at 239-394-1470.
Please join Friends of Tigertail at both of these important events. Hope to see you there!
