No one could anticipate the ending; it’s a process of elimination as the teams played their first, second and third rounds. At that point, it was decided to break for a much-anticipated hamburger luncheon with burgers, potato salad and all the fixings.
Once fortified with that delicious luncheon, play was resumed, and within minutes we were watching the semi-finals between Joanne Frawley and John Porter vs. Gayle Stoller and Al Smerecki, and Jeanette Price and Fred Koeck vs. Nancy Forest and Asa Seely. The end result was Joanne Frawley and John Porter playing against Jeanette Price and Fred Koeck. The game seemed to take hours as things went back and fourth, up and down. Finally, Jeanette Price and Fred Koeck reached the required 75 points and became the winners of the 16th Annual Sea Breeze South Shuffleboard Tournament. And the surprise was that Joanne Frawley and Jeanette Price are mother and daughter! It was a very friendly competition. Trophies were presented to the first and second place teams, followed by a reception of cake and ice cream in the clubhouse. It was a good day!
We can never close off without expressing gratitude to those who quietly work behind the scenes and make everything function perfectly. A special thank you this year goes out to John Porter who pitched in and helped out when it was needed. Thank you to Joe Mazzoni who cooked over 70 burgers, and to all the folks who helped out in the kitchen, getting everything out for lunch and then ice cream and cake when the winners were announced and trophies presented.A final note: One of Jeanette’s favorite expressions is “Loves me a burger.” Maybe it was one of Joe’s delicious burgers that energized her for the win!
