FREESTYLE MARTIAL ARTS FOR KIDS

Marco Island Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer a freestyle martials arts class for kids, which will be held at Mackle Park beginning Tuesday, September 7th from 3:30 – 4:30pm.

This new martial arts for kids program will be delivered by Jim Boxma, a new resident to Marco Island and owner of the Defense Fitness Club martial arts school. Mr. Boxma is a Personal Safety Instructor and holds the rank of Second Degree Black Belt in American Karate.

Offered by Defense Fitness Club, children will learn defensive techniques, combined with martial arts fitness and confidence building training and skill development. The program is a black belt program, and incorporates a 10 belt level curriculum where each rank focuses on the 5 principles of martials arts: Body Relationships, Balance, Extension, Blending & Controlling the Mind. a more diverse and effective set of techniques & approaches.

The Defense Fitness program emphasizes the importance of making good decisions, as strong Karate first begins in the mind. When combining good decision making with the core beliefs that are discussed and practice in and out of class, the result is an improving performance in many aspects of your child’s life.

Freestyle Martial Arts for Kids is available for ages 6 – 14 years and will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Cost is $$85 per month along with a $25 one time initial registration fee. Fees include a t-shirt and white belt.
