Gulfshore Opera (GO), now in its third season, is bringing more opera to Marco Island. This season the company plans 26 events in Southwest Florida between October and May. GO will present opera and classical vocal music concerts with a diverse offering of full-scale productions, community concerts, social engagement events and an elegant gala. Four of these events will take place on Marco Island.
GO begins their Marco concert offerings at the Marco Island Center for the Arts on November 10, with a return of the popular trio, The Gulfshore Tenors. The collaboration of these three handsome young tenors creates a singing sensation unique to Southwest Florida. Their style of performing is comparable to the international group “Il Divo.” The standard pop repertoire is sung with the bravura that only a trained operatic voice can produce. Favorite song selections include “Nella Fantasia,” “Unbreak my Heart,” and “Unchained Melody,” plus many other beautiful love songs of the last 50 years. And, of course, they include some fun opera hits! Their performances are consistently met with an enthusiastic audience response.
New this year is the addition of professional artists in residence. Through a national selection process, five professional artists will work and live in the community for two months. “I am very excited to move to this festival format with five of America’s best up and coming professionalopera artists in residence for our January through February productions and concerts. We will be bringing these great singing actors to Marco during our regional tour of Grand Opera Nights,” states GO founder and director, Steffanie Pearce. The program includes great moments from top ten opera like, “La Boheme,” “La Traviata” and “Rigoletto.” Each scene is presented fully staged and in costume. The performance on January 11 is in partnership with the Marco Island Center for the Arts, and will be held at the Jewish Congregation across the street. A Meet the Artists reception follows the performance at the Center for the Arts.
Returning to Marco on February 2, Gulfshore Opera presents A Taste of Opera at the Marco Island Hideaway Beach Club. This elegant evening of dinner and song is hosted by Marco resident and GO board member, Stephanie Schwetz.
The final Gulfshore Opera offering for this third season is Cabaret Comes Alive at the Marco Island Historical Society’s Rose Auditorium on May 11, in conjunction with the Stay in May Festival: Come and Celebrate With Us. Marco Island visual artist Malenda Trick will paint in the style of one her favorite artists, Toulouse Lautrec. Gulfshore Opera’s founder, Steffanie Pearce, will perform cabaret favorites, accompanied by Dr. James Cochran. This evening of extraordinary talent promises to end your season on a high note!
