Foster Care School Supply Drive

Last year FFCF fulfilled 3,070 requests for help from foster children and their caregivers.

Beebe’s Ice Cream shop is the drop-off point for school supplies to support the 6th Annual Back to School Fair.  The fair will offer free school supplies to children in the foster care system with open dependency cases within the county.   The event is hosted by the Friends of Foster Children Forever and is sponsored by Arthrex.   School supplies, backpacks, as well as uniforms, shoes, vision exams, dental screenings, and haircuts are given free of charge.

Because foster children are moved around so frequently, they can often fall behind in school.  On average only 50 percent of foster children graduate high school.  “We really try to give the children everything they’ll need to be successful in school from the very first day,” said Ann Hughes, Executive Director of Friends of Foster Children Forever.  Hughes continued, “We want to improve the graduation rate so they can achieve greatness in school and ultimately their lives.”

According to the Friends of Foster Children Forever’s website, this drive will benefit foster children in Collier, Hendry and Glades counties.

If you would like to donate school supply drive items from the list may be dropped off at Beebe’s Ice Cream Shop at Marco Walk Plaza, 599 South Collier Boulevard, Marco Island. “We will have a large box for drop off,” said Tracy Stolinas, a Guardian ad Litem for foster children. “We urge everyone to stop in and bring something from the list.  Supplies must be dropped off at the shop by July 6th.”
