More than 700 aviation professionals will gather in Naples July 22-25 for FAC 2012, the 43rd annual conference of the Florida Airports Council. Participants will include airport managers and staff members, speakers, conference sponsors and exhibitors for the largest single-state aviation conference in the nation. Expected speakers include federal and state leaders and industry professionals who will discuss issues affecting Florida’s airports.
The conference is hosted by the City of Naples Airport Authority; Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau; Lee County Port Authority; and Collier County Airport Authority. Conference headquarters is the Waldorf Astoria Naples.
“The conference is a great opportunity to showcase our city,” said City of Naples Airport Authority Executive Director Ted Soliday, who is immediate past president of the professional association. “It not only attracts a significant contingent of airport professionals but also family members who will enjoy Naples as a vacation destination.
“Our beautiful beaches and pristine natural surroundings, as well as excellent shopping, dining and cultural amenities all provide an excellent counterpoint to our top-rated resort-based meeting facilities, so FAC 2012 attendees should find plenty of diversions here in Florida’s Paradise Coast,” said Jack Wert, executive director of the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Meetings and conferences play an important role in our destination, bringing an economic impact of $338 million per year to our community.”
The City of Naples Airport Authority operates Naples Municipal Airport, a certificated air carrier airport that is home to flight schools, air charter operators and corporate aviation and nonaviation businesses as well as fire/rescue services, mosquito control, car rental agencies and the Collier County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit. During the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the airport accommodated more than 84,000 takeoffs and landings. The Florida Department of Transportation values the airport’s economic impact to the community at more than $273 million annually.
