First Responders Recognized for Heroic Efforts

For several years now the Collier County Emergency Services Department has held a special ceremony to recognize those first responders who were participants in saving the life of a citizen by applying successful resuscitation of a party stricken with a cardiac arrest.

The recent Phoenix Awards were held on May 20th and five members of the Marco Island Fire Rescue Department were recognized for their recent efforts in the resuscitation of a patient on Marco Island.

“We have some of the best trained and well qualified professionals that work within our department and they make us proud every day,” said Deputy Chief David Batiato.

On that day, 172 emergency response personnel from throughout Collier County were recognized for their efforts.  Battalion Chief Jeff Kutzke, First Responders Brian Asdel, Ray Ladurini, Dan Ring and Derk Switken from the Marco Island Fire Rescue Department were recognized for their heroic efforts that saved the life of a resident.
