Feds Feed Families Food Drive

By Laurie Harris,

Public Affairs Officer

Since 2009, when the U.S. Coast Guard began participating in the Feds Feed Families food drive, nearly 57.2 million pounds of food has been collected; more than 17.9 million pounds last year alone.

The Feds Feeding Families was designed to help food pantries stock up during the slow summer months when donations are usually down. This is particularly true on Marco Island when season comes to a close, and many jobs are eliminated during the summer.

To support the Coast Guard’s 8th Annual Feds Feed Families campaign, the Marco Island U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary has teamed up with Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, located at 1450 Winterberry Drive, Marco Island. Since its inception on January 30, 2016, Our Daily Bread Food Pantry has served the needs of families here on Marco Island, feeding more than 250 people per month.

This year’s campaign theme is “Feds Fighting Hunger,” and will take place on August 20, 2016 at Publix on South Barfield Avenue from 11 AM to 3 PM.

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry accepts all types of non-perishable foods, paper goods, baby and personal hygiene items. If you are unable to joins us, please consider making a tax-deductible donation directly to Our Daily Bread Food Pantry at: fbcmarco.com/ministries /benevolence-foodpantry.
