A vehicle operated by Anthony Britt, 30, who resided on Marco Island was involved in a high-speed car crash early this morning on San Marco Road. Mr. Britt was fatally injured in the accident and was ejected from the vehicle. The car was totally destroyed in the crash.
After striking a cement utility pole and essentially dissecting the vehicle in half, a portion of the automobile impacted a home at 1968 San Marco Road, owned by Rory and Vickie Barbot. The home was occupied at the time of the accident and awoke the couple.
Both the Marco Island Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol were on the scene investigating the fatal crash, which occurred at approximately 2:30am. Mr. Britt was an employee at the Sand Bar on East Elkham Circle. He was a night bartender one evening a week since June of 2017, having worked there earlier in his career.
The roadway was closed for several hours as MIPD and FHP continued their investigation of the fatal accident, which also impacted electrical and utility services to this area of the island.
