6½ to 9 inches of rain fell on the island overnight
on June 5. By 9 AM on June 6, Jon Busch
of Hernando Drive reported 6½ inches in his rain gauge.
Major intersections
and side streets were impacted. Marco Island Police closed flooded roadways
and aided motorists to find alternate routes to prevent stalling of
motor vehicles or driving vehicles into swales and becoming disabled.
“We have
all our people working problem areas to assist residents and would
request motorist exercise extreme caution, especially when driving through flooded roadways.
If possible we suggest they find alternate routes, rather than driving
through deep water,” said Police Chief Al Schettino.
No major power outages
or other issues were reported.
