Exercises for the Quiet Eye

Annie Storr’s “Exercises for the Quiet Eye” workshop is open to anyone interested in taking the time to learn more about new techniques for viewing art. The interactive morning workshop is all about doing—exploring, seeing, reflecting, responding. It will consist of a series of guided exercises for participants to explore what they can learn from art rather than about art. It will focus on skills for looking and thinking that can be applied to many different types of art.

Annie V. F. Storr has devoted her career to exploring the intersection of art history and education. She holds a Ph.D. in the history of art from the University of Delaware, and she was the founding Chair of Education Studies at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, she was Head of Education Programs for the American Association of Museums as well as Director of Arts Management at American University. Currently, she is a Resident Scholar at Brandeis University’s Women’s Research Study Center and teaches in the Museum Studies program at Harvard University.

The exhibition, Censorship… Coming Your Way, will be the focus of the EQE Workshop.

American-Venezuelan artist Arturo Correa, a graphic designer and painter, combined his painting and design skills to create this engaging new series. His creative process begins as sketches on a computer and is produced in its final stage with brushes and acrylic paint on canvas.

Presented in a collage-like manner, the paintings have a busy and complicated nature that encourages introspection on what drives our decision making and the flood of information we are forced to reconcile daily. The word “censorship” can be found throughout the series. Its prevalence reminds viewers that censorship can be found everywhere, including amid our own inner dialogues and in everyday social situations.

Tickets are $10 for Current Members of the UAC; $20 for Future Members of the UAC. To purchase tickets, please visit www.eventbrite.com.
