Mark your calendars now for the Relay For Life of Marco Island! This community event and celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 7 from 3 to 9 PM at Veterans Community Park, Marco Island. The Relay For Life (RFL) is a global movement and signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society that began in 1985. It is a team event that celebrates survivors, remembers loved ones lost, and fights back against this deadly disease. Last year, the Relay For Life of Marco Island placed first in fundraising in the state of Florida. This year, they plan to do it again by jazzing things up and getting “saxy”!
Saxophone sensation Eirinn Abu will perform at the Luminaria Ceremony of RFL on April 7. The Grammynominated artist’s renditions of Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, and other songs soar above the realm of music, lifting the audience on a spiritual journey of emotion and hope.
You don’t have to wait until April 7 to experience his music. The American Cancer Society of Marco Island and the Wesley United Methodist Church invite you to attend a pre-Relay concert at the church, located at 350 S. Barfield Drive on Thursday, March 22 at 7 PM. Admission is free. The concert will be a preview of the Relay For Life, featuring a Luminaria Ceremony with beacons of light to symbolically honor survivors and remember those who have passed.
All cancer survivors, along with their families and caregivers, are invited to attend a Survivor’s Dinner on Tuesday, April 3 at 6 PM at the New Life Community Church, 489 W. Elkcam Circle.
Other events are also planned to raise funds in the Relay For Life. Dine For a Cause at Texas Roadhouse will take place on March 20. When you mention the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life, Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of your bill to the cause. Gulf Coast Clays will host the Shoot Down Kids Cancer event on March 17. On April 19, a fundraising golf outing will be held at Hammock Bay.
