Easter Sunrise Service on the beach

Plans are underway for Marco’s 24th Annual Easter Sunrise Service on the Beach. What began as a small gathering on the beach of several hundred has grown to an event that thousands attend each year. Organizers anticipate upwards to 8000.

The prelude begins at 6:45 AM with contemporary and traditional instrumental selections.

New this year will be Dawn of Billy Dean and Dawn Birch. The duo has been performing at dinner parties and at clubs in southwest Florida since 1997. Their repertoire includes music from the twenties and forties to disco and rock and roll. Billy Dean, her husband, will not be with her. He will be at Legacy Church in Estero, their home church, preparing to lead the worship service. Dawn like many who attend the Sunrise

Service will then leave to worship at their home church.

The Sunrise Service will not be the largest crowd that Dawn has sung before. In 2004 she sang for 14,000 at a George W. Bush rally in Ft. Myers.

She will sing three selections. She will begin just before sunrise with the up-tempo “They Could Not”; a triumphant song that speaks of the Resurrection.

The energetic and enthusiastic 6’ 1” redhead, who is 6’ 1” without heels and hair, is known for her humor and virtuoso voice. Her strong pitch-perfect sustained long notes bear out her operatic training. However, she would rather be known as a woman of prayer.

relationship with Jesus. “He did die for us, rise three days later and is coming back for those who believe in Him, if we don’t die and go to meet Him first,” wrote Dawn in an email. “I want to see all my friends and family in heaven.”

The 24th Annual Marco Island Easter Sunrise Service on the Beach will be held on Sunday, April 8, at 7:00 AM, at the Marriott Marco Beach Resort, 400 South Collier Boulevard, Marco Island. Participating clergy are the Rev. William “Bill” Lyle, Marco Presbyterian Church; the Rev. Thomas McCulley, New Life Community Church; and the Rev. Kirk Dreiser, Wesley United Methodist Church.
