Early Evening Crash Leaves Marco Teens Seriously Injured


The Marco Island community woke on Tuesday morning to learn that several island youths were injured, two of them seriously as a result of an early evening crash in the northbound lanes of Alligator Alley (I-75) shortly before 7 PM on Monday evening.

A vehicle being driven by Jonathan Hurtley, 17, of Marco Island crashed into a Ford Ranger “improperly” parked on the northbound side of I-75 in the outside lane near the 58-mile marker. The Ford Ranger had its hazard lights flashing. The Hurtley vehicle impacted the unoccupied truck and both ignited into flames.

As a result of the crash, Sarah Lintz, 19 and Joshua Jordan, 16 of Marco Island were transported to Broward General Hospital. Lintz is listed in critical condition and Jordan was in serious condition.

Hurtley, the driver of the northbound vehicle and Anthony Blanco, 18 of Naples were transported to Naples Community Hospital with lesser injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation and no additional information is available at this time regarding the condition of the Marco and Naples teens.
