Like so many momentous occasions, The East Naples Civic Association’s grand Retirement Party to commemorate our esteemed District 1 County Commissioner was canceled. The party may have been called off, but not ENCA’s plan to revere this wonderful lady.
In lieu of merrymaking, members were called upon to contribute Christmas Cheer to families in need, and contribute they did as member donations totaled $2,270! The season of giving is alive and well in East Naples. The East Naples Civic Association proudly awarded eight families with holiday gift cards in Donna Fiala’s name. “Donna Claus” and her helper, Jean Kungle, personally delivered holiday cheer to Manatee Elementary, Parkside Elementary, East Naples Middle and Lely High School. Laurie Mearsheimer, Principal of Manatee Elementary, requested assistance for a large family. Principal Mearsheimer informed us of three students attending her school, two at Manatee Middle School and two at Lorenzo Walker Technical High School.
“One of the children told his teacher that they don’t celebrate Christmas. We later found out that it wasn’t for religious reasons but because they don’t have the money,” said Principal Mearsheimer.
A counselor spoke to the mother and learned the family does celebrate but needs help. ENCA takes great pleasure in giving back to our community. A heartfelt “Thank You” to members who donated and assisted our newly adopted families with extra help for a brighter holiday season. For membership information visit www.EastNaplesCivic.com.
Our much-loved County Commissioner may have retired, but remains devoted to the beautiful community of East Naples she served for 20 years.
