The still, small voice within you is the same, no matter where you are. A genuine smile is the same on any face you see.
During a recent three-week European vacation, my husband and I were traveling to Scandinavia aboard a 27 hour cruise/ferry from Germany to Finland.
I was amazed at how many different languages I heard. They may have been speaking words I didn’t understand, but the spirits were all the same. The boat was full mostly of workers, transporters and weary travelers like us. I could not personally differentiate the Finnish from the German from the Polish or the Russian as easily (if at all) as my great friends with us who hail from Hamburg. What an education!
I saw people trying to connect. The faces, the body language and the smiles were the best indication as to what was happening between people from the many different cultures. For example, our native German friends and my American husband and I were talking in English at a table when a wide faced smiling man approached us, saying in broken English, that he “heard” English.
Seemingly wanting to communicate, he sat down. As a cautious American, I withdrew a bit on the inside feeling inadequate with my one-language-only handicap. His spirit and my German friends’ words soon brought us all to a memorable and fun, multi-language chat over a brilliant glass of German beer.
Only on the first few days of our three-week trip, I felt the love. I believe that feeling is available to all of us, if we are tuned in to the enormity of such a subtle and ever-present energy.
If you can find it and feel it right where you are, maybe, just maybe, you can spread it.
To think, I was so worried about being such a distance from the life I live and love. It turns out, I was not so far from home after all.
