The Rose History Auditorium at the Marco Island History Museum was very merrily decked with a variety of creative holiday wreaths on Nov. 30. The Second Annual “Deck the Doors and More” wreath and tree decorating contest drew a steady stream of visitors to enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and wine, socialize in some Christmas spirit and bid on the wreaths they hoped would adorn their door this holiday season.
After final submissions, the wreaths were judged. CJ’s on the Bay took first place; Marco Island Shell Club came in second; and Karen Swanker wonthird. The Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS) and the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce co-sponsored evening, wrapping it up with the announcement of the “People’s Choice Award” winner. Throughout the evening, all who attended cast a vote for their favorite creation. The Marco Island Shell Club’s wreath took the people’s choice first-place.
“This event was so successful last year, and so amazing as far as the artistry and ingenuity that these people had, we just had to do it a second year,” said Lori Wagor, enterprise manager for (MIHS), “And I think this has toppedlast year. Everybody’s gotten so into it; they‘ve gone crazy with their ideas.”
“We’re reaching out to the community because this is a multi-purpose campus. History is number one, but this type of thing brings people and their creativity out. It’s a fun affair, and it’s just part of what we do here,” said Wagor.
Katherine O’Hara, the chamber’s director of sales and marketing, said that any wreaths not sold that night would be available through Facebook following the event; there are still a few left! For more information visit www.facebook.com/MarcoChamber.
