May 1st is a special day for Margaret Lamp of Marco Island. Today is her first triathlon event and it was also her Dad’s birthday. Wayne Peters would have been 89 years old on May 1st. She wanted to do something special to honor him.
On her Facebook page, Margaret shared this with her friends: “This man, my first love, my dad, passed away five years ago and a triathlonthis year happens to fall on his birthday. I’m training for him, I think he’d be proud.”
Jada Shigley, Kim McIntosh, Jill Galloway and Nikki Popoff, all from Marco Island, carried hand-made signs of support for Margaret. For the last month and a half, Margaret has been riding her bike around Marco with her training partner and coach, Nicole Cholka. The ladies all met at the Marco Fitness Club whereMargaret is a spin instructor, personal trainer and also teaches Booty Barre classes. Jada loves working out with Margaret, and Kim added that the classes are fun and there is always something new.
May 1st turned out to be a “personal best” kind of day for Margaret. She finished first in her age group surrounded by family and friends. The hand-made signs summed it up best, “Your Dad Would Be Proud” and “So Are We.”
